Z v X (Declaration of Parentage) [2020] EWFC 67

Tom Wilson, instructed by Goodman Ray, appeared on behalf of the children in this case concerning applications for declarations of parentage of three donor-conceived children.

Mrs Justice Theis expressed concern that the General Registrar’s Office had provided the court with an incorrect analysis of the legal position, which had the effect of introducing doubt regarding the children’s parentage. She directed that a copy of her judgment be sent to the GRO.

The judgment contains a comprehensive summary of the law relating to the acquisition of parenthood and explains the differences between legal parenthood and parental responsibility.
