Practice Overview

Before joining 1GC Family Law, Gemma practiced at a prestigious solicitor’s firm for over 10 years specialising in Care Proceedings. She was one of the firm’s specialist in-house Solicitor-Advocates and has appeared in courts at all levels. She undertakes work in all areas of Public and Private Children Law.

Gemma represents guardians, parents, grandparents and other family members, as well as local authorities. Gemma’s public law work includes care proceedings, adoption, deprivation of liberty orders, and wardship.

Within her private law work, Gemma regularly undertakes all aspects of children law including child arrangements, special guardianship, and permission to remove a child from the jurisdiction.

Gemma has particular experience in separately representing competent children and a keen interest in representing young and vulnerable parents, including those with mental health or learning difficulties.

Prior to transferring to the Bar, Gemma was a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and Family Panel, and a member of Resolution.
