Practice Overview

Edward’s Court practice encompasses the full range of public and private law hearings involving children. Edward is able to provide written advice and online conferencing at all stages.

Edward joined Nicholas Street Chambers in 1999 following pupillage at One Garden Court Chambers (now 1GC Family Law) and spent the following nine years developing a busy family practice across the North-West, West Midlands and North Wales.

In 2008, Edward was elected to Parliament and served as Minister for Children and Families between 2012 and 2017. He led several Bills through Parliament, including the now Children and Families Act 2014, Education and Adoption Act 2016 and Children and Social Work Act 2017.

Edward served as Chair of CAFCASS and Chair of the National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel between 2017 and 2019. In 2022 he was appointed Solicitor-General and awarded silk. Before stepping down from Parliament, Edward acted as an adviser to Ministers on Family Justice policy.

Edward’s unique experience of and insight into Family law has been complemented by his childhood growing up in a family that fostered over 90 children. Edward also has two adopted brothers.

Edward brings with him an empathetic style that is strongly focused on finding long term solutions for clients, ensuring they are listened to and respected during any case.
