WSP (A Child) (Vaccination: religious objection), Re [2023] EWHC 2622

This was an interesting case where the mother sought an injunction to prevent the Local Authority arranging for the subject child to have routine childhood vaccinations, specifically: Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, haemophilus influenzae type b (hib) and hepatitis B, Meningococcal group b disease (MenB), Pneumococcal disease (13 serotypes). The mother's opposition to the vaccinations was religious and based on her assertion that the vaccines were contrary to her (and the child’s) Islamic faith.

Siobhan F Kelly, instructed by Miles and Partners, represented the child through their guardian and successfully argued against the injunction and in favour of the child receiving the vaccinations.
