Edward Flood appeared for the local authority in the case of Re N (A Child) (Registration of Birth) [2024] EWFC 466 (B). The case involved a mother who is part of a movement which does not recognise the authority of the state.
The mother opposed her son – who was in the care of the local authority pursuant to an Interim Care Order – having his birth registered. She believed this would make her son property of the state. The local authority applied to the court to permit registration, given the mother’s stance, the application was granted.
The case was heard in December 2024, however, has only recently been published.
