Philip Perrins, instructed by Alexandra Goldrein at Slater Heelis, acted for the successful petitioner in J v A [2023] EWFC 132 before Richard Harrison KC, sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge.

The decision concerned the respondent’s application for a stay of the English proceedings in favour of his competing Nigerian divorce petition. The judge found that England is – by a significant margin – the more convenient forum and he also rejected the respondent’s challenge to the jurisdiction of the English court to entertain the petitioner’s divorce petition.
