Practice Overview
His Honour Peter Nathan has significant experience and expertise in resolving children cases.
Peter was one of the founding members of 1GC Family Law (then 1 Garden Court Family Law). Prior to joining the bench he was listed by Chambers and Partners as a top junior in children cases. An early proponent of NCDR, having qualified as a mediator he set up the first ever mediation scheme in any set of chambers at 1 Garden Court Family Law, an event then of such significance that it featured in an article in The Times.
He sat both as a deputy district judge and recorder in family law cases before his full-time appointment as a Circuit Judge in 2005. He was the designated family judge for Surrey from 2010 to 2018 and also sat as a deputy High Court Judge in children cases.
On the Bench, he was both admired and liked as a family judge. He was noted for his good sense, approachability, fairness and intellect as well as the quality of his judgments. He was never successfully appealed as a circuit judge.
His approach throughout his professional career has always been empathetic and conciliatory. Whilst always sensitive to the difficult circumstances of family breakdown he was and is always able to cut through the facts so as speedily to identify and resolve the real issues in any case.
He now brings this experience-honed set of skills to Non-Court Dispute Resolution and is available for Mediations and Early Neutral Evaluations.
