Children (Public Law)

The Legal 500 described our Children Law practice as having 'set a new gold-standard at the family bar.'

Our Public Law team has a national reputation for excellence, offering a range of expertise and experience across the full spectrum of public law children work.

Our members are instructed both at first instance and appellate level in the most complex public law cases which come before the Courts of England and Wales. In the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, we appear in cases which both shape and change the law.

In the recent past, members have appeared in reported cases involving radicalisation and allegations of terrorist threat to public safety, inter familial non-recent sexual abuse involving evidence from vulnerable parties, inflicted fatal injury to infants, and fabricated or induced illness. Given the profile of, and attendant media interest in, many of these cases, the team are well-versed in such issues as public interest immunity, closed materials process, and media applications for publicity and the restraint of publicity.

We represent parents, children, local authorities and all those involved in the lives of children with whose welfare the court is concerned. Our representation of children embraces instructions via Cafcass, the Official Solicitor or NYAS through to direct instruction by competent young people. Where appropriate we also undertake Judicial Review proceedings instructed by either the families or the public bodies concerned.

Our clerks are always willing to discuss the needs of a particular client so as to identify Counsel of appropriate seniority and experience who will best match those needs.
